Rewiring a house
or shop is a major project. We always make every effort to
ensure the work is carried out over the shortest time period.
This reduces the inconvenience that a rewire can cause if not
planned and carried out with thought and care.
Below is a list
of common questions and answers about rewires and what to
expect. Get in touch if there's something you want to know
that's not listed. |

How Much Does
A Rewire Cost? |
|
|
This depends on
the the size of your home and the amount of materials and
labour required. A general average, based on our previous year
of rewire estimates on houses between two and three bedrooms
ranges between £2000 and £3000. However, it really does vary
based on the property. We always carry out a thorough survey
before estimating the cost. This ensures that there will be no
hidden costs. |

How Long Does
It Take To Rewire A House? |
|
|
Again, this
depends on the size of the property and the amount of work
needed. An average is between four and seven days. |

Will My
Electricity Be Cut Off During The Works? |
|
|
There may be
short periods where we may need to disconnect the supply but
in general your electricity will remain on during the works.
We always schedule the work to ensure the minimum possible
periods without power. |

Will There Be
Lots Of Dust? |
|
|
Although we make
every effort to minimize dust, you can expect some dust during
the early stages of the work. In the majority of houses we
have to 'channel' out cable routes in the walls. This can
cause some dust and debris. We always clean up continuously to
minimize this inconvenience. We also use dust sheets to
protect floors and carpets. It is a good idea to remove
sensitive electrical equipment or valuable items that are at
risk from damage during the works. |

Can I have
More Sockets And Move Lights? |
|
|
Yes. During the
planning we will offer advice on the number of sockets as well
as their position. A lot of older houses have only one socket
in each room. This is a major reason that people have their
houses rewired. It is also a good opportunity to have new
circuits installed for additional appliances such as a central
heating boiler or shower. |

So How Does It
Work? What Happens? |
|
|
It all
starts with what we call the 'First Fix'. This is where we lay
the routes for the new circuits. During this stage we channel
out cable routes and will need to remove carpets and
floorboards to access the spaces between floors. We will also
need to access the loft. Once this is complete, we run the new
cables and then do the 'Second Fix'. This is where we connect
the new accessories such as lights and sockets. We also cover
the channels with new plaster. The final stage is to install
your new
Consumer Unit
before carrying out a thorough test of the complete
installation. Once we are 100% satisfied with the test we
switch on your new circuits. |

What If
Something Goes Wrong After You've Finished? |
|
|
We have carried
out many rewires and our standard of work ensures that nothing
is a risk of going wrong. The level of testing before the
installation is switched on certifies that the installation is
safe. If you do have a problem or are not sure of something,
we will come back to put your mind at ease.

Is The Work
Guaranteed? |
|
|
Yes. All of our
domestic rewires are guaranteed for TEN YEARS. This guarantee
covers the parts and workmanship.

Who Does The
Work? |
|
|
Our
registered 'Qualified Supervisor' is always available to
oversee the work and only he can test and sign off the
installation. We only use
NICEIC
registered electricians. All of our staff work to the latest
edition of the wiring regulations (BS7671:2008). All our work
is carried out in accordance with building regulations and the
recently introduced 'Part
P'. |

|
How Do I Pay? |
|
|
We normally
request a deposit to secure the materials and time slot. The
balance is then due in two parts. The first is due upon
completion of the first fix and the remaining amount is due
when the work is completed and you are happy with the result. |
